“These Things We Do, That Others May Live”

Scholarship Program

As part of our commitment to the community, the Foundation annually offers scholarships to 3 students at Sean’s alma mater, Montour High School.  Each honoree receives a monetary scholarship from the Foundation to pursue post-secondary education or trade school. The students are asked to write an essay about their time at Montour. In the essay they are also asked to comment on how Sean’s way of life  and his commitment to community and country can be related to their lives.

The Foundation receives these applications & anonymously reviews the essays without the applicant names.  Three winners are selected and honored at the Awards Day held at the high school near the end of the school year.  Winners names are then added to the permanent memorial outside the Montour High School Library.

“I attend Case Western Reserve University studying Biomedical Engineering. Other than classes, I’m a percussionist in the Jazz Ensemble and on the Club Volleyball Team. I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Case Western Reserve University and am very thankful for the financial assistance the Capt. Sean Ruane Foundation scholarship has granted me to pursue my desired academic path and immerse myself in the overall college experience.”
